A Senate report offered evidence that the military’s harsh interrogations of terrorism suspects were authorized at high levels of the Bush administration.Another story on the torture program McClatchy suggests establishing a link between al Qaida and Iraq was one of the factors motivating the use of these interrogation methods.
A former U.S. Army psychiatrist, Maj. Charles Burney, told Army investigators in 2006 that interrogators at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention facility were under "pressure" to produce evidence of ties between al Qaida and Iraq.
