"Another Washington State Convention Report"

"I was sitting in the front row for much of the State Convention next to our friend Andrew V. the live-blogger; as you will see, our reports are quite different! We all tend to see and hear what reinforces our preconceived opinions...don't rely for info on one eyewitness report...not even mine.
WARNING: picture-heavy content.

After the opening speeches, Senator Maria Cantwell was extolled as our savior by Dwight Pelz, Jim McDermott, and a videotaped Bill Clinton (a lighting artiste could minimize those Hefty Bags under your eyes, Bill). In case anyone might not have noticed the Cantwell stickers affixed to each WA County sign, or still might not know who is the star of the show, Maria was preceded as usual by a marching drum corps and a large contingent of enthused cheerleaders. These included Ivan,(34th LD Chair) who looked very fetching in Maria's blue & green dancing star T-shirt. No pic of that, I regret to say.

Cantwell gave her usual energetic & polished campaign speech--lots about her political upbringing, energy policy, education, and environment--devoting only a line or two to the "Year of Transition" in Iraq. Too bad such a talented politician is so full of shit on several crucial issues, was my regretful feeling.

A number of mutinous delegates held antiwar signs or chanted "no war"--one woman even paraded her sign in front of the podium while Cantwell spoke. This woman apparently takes pride in her habit of getting in people's faces, because she did so repeatedly during the platform debates--more about that later.

Lastly, the catchy 80s tune "We are Family (Aren't We)?" as Cantwell exited.

A Cantwell T-shirted girl told me she thought my protest was classy, not obnoxious: I held an antiwar sign, but chose not to chant, and even applauded parts of Maria's speech that I approved of."-from the post by dinazina on Washblog.

KIMA had this report,"Democrats Set Up Shop In Yakima," (text and video).
