Zogby Calls for ''blue ribbon bipartisan panel'' to investigate 2004 election

News you'll read nowhere in the Seattle press: The nation's most reliable and respected pollster says, "We have a problem in this country of extreme partisanship and responsible, respectable people who believe that there was a conspiracy," which Zogby added "simply is not healthy." Zogby said he is calling for an investigation "not to suggest that the election was stolen or to suggest that the results would be overturned, but to collect an objective, independent body of evidence of those who believe there was a problem." I'm waiting for The Good Doctor to pipe up on this issue. Speaking of the Seattle press, let's give some credit where it is due: Sandeep Kaushik, writing in the new Stranger, identifies the Gregoire sorority flap and her lack of outreach to the state's African-American community as a factor in their "tepid" support of her candidacy. Update: "Why history demands an Ohio revote," from the journalist/scholars who should get a Pulitzer Prize for journalism this year, Harvey Wasserman and Bob Fitrakis. There's an AP story out on the wire tonight, "Doubts Persist About Election Results." This opinion piece addresses the media silence on the evidence being presented far and wide about the "irregularities" in this year's election. Though directed at the NY Times, it applies as well to our local newspapers, as I have noted elsewhere. The Cleveland Plain Dealer, a major mainstream daily in Ohio has, this account tonight telling how "poll workers didn't instruct voters to use only the machines for their precinct." Tomorrow, Saturday, December 11, will see the "You Stole My Vote" 51 Capital March, including an event in Olympia. Here are some links for the lowdown on tomorrow's events. KOMO 1000 Radio News sticks to the bottom line in its report on the Washington state recount tonight, "Hand Recount Might Cost More Than Originally Thought." The AP has "Observers Watch Wash. Recount Closely."
